The 10 yard container in Atlanta
The 10 yard is the one we send when the job is one room, one garage or one weekend. At about 14 feet long it is the shortest container we run, so it suits the tighter driveways you find in parts of Atlanta — an older lot in Decatur, a narrow drive near Midtown, a townhouse with a short apron, a back corner of a job site. The trade-off is volume: it holds about three pickup loads, or roughly 50 to 70 trash bags, and cabinets and drywall fill it fast.
Where the 10 yard earns its keep is weight. Concrete, brick, dirt, asphalt and tile hit the limit long before a big box looks full, and the 10 includes about one to two tons. That is why heavy debris belongs in the small boxes: concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt and gravel should typically only go in a 10 or a 15, because of transportation weight limits. Tell us what is going in and we will help you plan a load that stays inside the limit.
Small remodels, one-room cleanouts and the heavy stuff
A bathroom tear-out — tile, tub, vanity, a bit of drywall — sits comfortably in a 10 yard. So does a garage cleanout, a small kitchen job, a roofing tear-off on a smaller roof, or a patch of concrete or tile coming up. It works best for dense, heavy debris rather than bulky household junk.
It suits Atlanta because regular pickup stops short of most project debris. Inside the City of Atlanta, bulk collection takes no more than four cubic yards of building material that a resident generated maintaining their own home — and that limit does not cover roofing shingles, brick, plaster or concrete — and the Department of Public Works is not allowed to collect any material generated by contractors (City Code Sec. 130-40(c)(2) and (4)). Construction and demolition waste is kept off the curb altogether, except for a small owner project whose debris fits inside a 96-gallon cart (Sec. 130-45(b)). Anything more than that is what a 10 yard on the driveway is for.
The weight line on a 10 yard
About one to two tons — 2,000 to 4,000 pounds — is included, depending on the debris. Mixed household junk never gets close. A 10 filled to the rim with concrete, dirt or shingles can, so spread it evenly, keep it level with the top rim, and tell us it is coming. If the load goes over the included weight, overage charges may apply based on the disposal facility's weight measurements — we explain the weight guidelines up front so there are no surprises.
Suitability
Is the 10 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 10 yard for
- Bathroom or small kitchen remodel
- Garage or single-room cleanout
- Roofing tear-off on a smaller roof
- Concrete, brick, asphalt and tile within the weight limit
- Tight driveways and limited placement space
Pick a different size for
- A whole-house cleanout — that is a 20 or a 30
- Bulky furniture from several rooms
- Tires, car batteries, paint, oil, fuel or propane tanks
- Fridges, freezers and A/C units — the refrigerant has to be recovered first
Placing a 10 yard container on a metro Atlanta property
It needs a flat, stable spot about 14 feet long and 7.5 feet wide, about 60 feet of access for the truck, and at least 25 feet of clear space overhead — no low wires or branches. On your own driveway or lot in the City of Atlanta we found no City permit rule for a roll-off, and the City treats private property as the first choice. In a City of Atlanta street or right-of-way you need a Department of Transportation dumpster permit (City Code Sec. 138-61) — $20 plus $10 a day for up to 100 linear feet, for no more than six months, issued only where the container cannot be accommodated on private property. We found no Georgia DOT permit for a roll-off on a state route right-of-way. Other cities have their own rules — Sandy Springs keeps containers off public rights-of-way, Brookhaven allows a dumpster on a city street only with a city Dumpster Permit for up to 30 days, and some cities keep collection to themselves or a franchisee. Check your HOA too: covenants can cover containers in driveways. Protective boards can go under the container. Each city page covers its own code.

10 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
How much space does a 10 yard dumpster need?
The container is about 14 feet long and 7.5 feet wide. Allow about 60 feet of access for the truck, a flat, stable surface to set it on, and at least 25 feet of clear space overhead — watch for power lines and tree limbs. Move cars, trailers and equipment out of the way, and if you will not be home, mark the spot with cones or tape so the driver places it where you asked.
Can I put concrete in a 10 yard dumpster?
Yes — it is one of the main reasons people rent one. Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt and gravel should typically only go in a 10 or 15 yard container because of transportation weight limits. Spread it evenly, keep it level with the top rim, and tell us roughly how much there is.
How long do I get it for?
Most rentals include a standard 7-day rental period. Need longer? Call and we can often extend it for an additional daily or weekly rate. Finished early? Call and we will arrange an earlier pickup.
Is it the cheapest option?
It is our smallest container. Rentals across metro Atlanta generally range from about $350 to $750 depending on the size, the type of debris, the weight, how long you keep it and where it is going, with flat-rate pricing that can include delivery, pickup and disposal — and no hidden fuel surcharges. If the job grows, we can often swap it for a bigger box quickly.
