Everything people ask before they book

If you are renting a dumpster for the first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the City will want a permit, and what you cannot throw in. Whether you are cleaning out a home in Buckhead, remodeling in Decatur or running a job site near Downtown, the answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (470) 407-6185 — a real person on our local team will answer it.

Part 1

Pricing

How much does a dumpster rental cost in Atlanta, GA?

Rentals generally range from about $350 to $750 depending on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the rental length, the disposal weight and the delivery location within metro Atlanta, with no hidden fees. You get a flat rate up front that can cover delivery, pickup, disposal, the standard 7-day rental and the included weight — about 1 to 2 tons on a 10 yard, 2 to 3 on a 15, 3 to 4 on a 20, 4 to 5 on a 30 and 5 to 6 on a 40. Going over can cost extra. The cost guide breaks it down.

Is delivery and pickup included in the price?

Yes. Our flat-rate pricing can include delivery, pickup, disposal up to the included weight and the standard rental period. No hidden fees, no surprise charges and no hidden fuel surcharges.

What causes extra charges?

Two things: going over the included weight (overage charges may apply based on the disposal facility's weight measurements) and keeping the container past the rental period (an additional daily or weekly rate). We explain all pricing and weight guidelines up front so there is nothing to find later.

Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or dirt?

Heavy debris such as concrete, dirt or brick may need separate handling or special pricing, and it uses up the included weight fast. So we size heavy loads differently — usually a 10 or 15 — and tell you where the weight line is before you load.

What payment methods do you accept?

Most major credit and debit cards. Payment is generally collected when your booking is confirmed, to reserve your delivery. Where an independent provider handles the rental, billing may be handled by that provider, and we tell you on the call.

Part 2

Sizing

What size dumpster do I need?

A 10 or 15 for smaller cleanups, roofing, concrete or dirt; a 20 for remodeling projects, landscaping and larger household cleanouts; a 30 or 40 for construction, demolition and large commercial projects. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.

What happens if I order too small?

You may need an additional haul — and too large means paying for unused space. When in doubt, describe the job and let us size it. If your debris volume changes during the rental, we can often arrange a swap-out quickly.

What is the biggest dumpster you offer?

A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 7.5 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, about 5–6 tons included. It is our largest roll-off, built for high-volume debris.

How full can I fill it?

Level with or below the top rim, no higher. Overfilled dumpsters cannot legally or safely be transported. Spread the weight evenly too.

Can I rent a dumpster for a roofing job?

Absolutely. Our 10 and 20 yard containers are the ones most often used for roofing — shingles, underlayment, flashing and roofing debris — and shingles are heavy, so tell us the approximate roof size and we will recommend the box around the weight.

Part 3

Permits, placement and city rules

Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?

On your own driveway or private property, permits are generally not required — inside the City of Atlanta we found no City permit rule for a roll-off on private property. In a City of Atlanta street, sidewalk or right-of-way, yes: City Code Sec. 138-61(b) makes it unlawful to place or maintain a dumpster in the public right-of-way without first getting a dumpster permit from the Department of Transportation. No permit is issued unless the dumpster cannot be accommodated on private property; the fee is $20 plus $10 a day for up to 100 linear feet; a permit lasts no more than six months; the container must show the provider's name and phone number and reflective sheeting on all four corners; and each day of a violation is a separate offense, with fines of up to $1,000 a day. The permit guide and your city page cover the details.

Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?

On a City of Atlanta street, with the Department of Transportation dumpster permit — and not within 40 feet of a bus stop, 30 feet of an intersection, 20 feet of a crosswalk or accessible parking space, or 15 feet of a fire hydrant, and not on a sidewalk unless there is no feasible alternative (Sec. 138-61(g)). On a state route, we found no Georgia DOT permit type for a roll-off on the right-of-way, so the container stays on the property. Elsewhere: Sandy Springs keeps containers off public rights-of-way (Sec. 46-24(6)); Marietta needs a Public Works permit (Sec. 5-8-040(A)(2)); Brookhaven needs a city Dumpster Permit, for up to 30 days, and not on streets 24 feet wide or less (Sec. 7-196(b)); Roswell and Lawrenceville need the public works director's or City Manager's authorization (Sec. 24.3.3; Sec. 30-28); and Decatur allows no sidewalk obstruction for more than 30 minutes (Sec. 86-4). Tell us when you book and we line the delivery up with it.

Is my address inside the City of Atlanta?

Not always, even with an Atlanta mailing address. Our own yard has one and sits in unincorporated Fulton County, just outside city limits. The City of Atlanta reaches into both Fulton and DeKalb counties, and the cities around it — Sandy Springs, East Point, College Park, Decatur and the rest — keep their own codes. If you are not sure, tell us the address and we will check which rules apply.

Why do some of your city pages mention haulers and franchises?

Because the rules differ a lot. The City of Atlanta lets any private contractor with a permit from the commissioner serve any customer who asks (City Code Sec. 130-52). Sandy Springs, Marietta, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Smyrna and College Park each run a permit, contract or registration, and Duluth and Lawrenceville register C&D haulers. Norcross has an exclusive franchise that covers roll-offs (Sec. 36-204), East Point requires owners to use the City for construction and demolition debris (Sec. 7-2005), Decatur services all areas itself (Sec. 82-38), Roswell rents city containers to businesses, Kennesaw says private haulers are not permitted, and DeKalb County, which serves Brookhaven, Tucker and Dunwoody, says private haulers are not permitted for commercial service. In those cities we check the City's rules before booking a container inside city limits. We are licensed & insured.

Does my HOA matter?

It can. Covenants can cover containers on your driveway, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book.

Will the dumpster damage my driveway?

We take precautions to protect driveways and surfaces during delivery and pickup, and many customers put plywood boards under the wheels for extra protection, especially on decorative or newer driveways. Tell us before delivery if a surface needs more than that — and keep it off soft ground.

How much space does the truck need?

A flat, stable surface; room for the container — about 14 feet long for a 10 yard, 16 feet for a 15, and about 22 feet for a 20 and up, all about 7.5 feet wide; about 60 feet of access for the truck; and at least 25 feet of clear space overhead. Power lines, tree limbs, parked cars, trailers and equipment are the usual problems.

Part 4

Booking and delivery

How do I book a dumpster?

Call (470) 407-6185. Tell us the address, what is going in and roughly how much, and we quote it flat and schedule it on the same call.

How fast can you deliver?

Same-day or next-day in many areas, depending on availability. For the best chance of same-day, call before noon.

What are your hours?

24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Storm requests go to the same number.

How long can I keep the dumpster?

Most rentals include a standard 7-day rental period. If you need more time, we can often extend it for an additional daily or weekly rate — contractors on long job sites and homeowners on multi-week renovations do it all the time. A street permit sets its own conditions: in the City of Atlanta no more than six months (Sec. 138-61(d)(1)), and in Brookhaven up to 30 days. In College Park a construction or temporary-project roll-off can stay on site without a permanent enclosure for up to 30 days unless extended (Sec. 8-202(c)), and Norcross limits a cleanout roll-off with no active building permit to four weeks a calendar year (Sec. 36-207(b)). Your HOA may have its own limit.

Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?

No. As long as we have clear placement instructions and the delivery area is clear of vehicles and obstacles, you do not need to be there. Same for pickup.

Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?

Yes. Several dumpsters at once, staggered deliveries and scheduled rotations are routine for contractors and property managers.

Part 5

Service area

What cities do you serve?

Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, East Point and College Park in Fulton County; Marietta, Smyrna and Kennesaw in Cobb; Decatur, Brookhaven, Dunwoody and Tucker in DeKalb; and Norcross, Duluth and Lawrenceville in Gwinnett — each with its own page. The complete Atlanta guide pulls it together.

Where are you based?

At 4445 Wendell Dr SW, Atlanta, GA 30336 — in the Fulton Industrial District, unincorporated Fulton County, just outside the City of Atlanta on the west side of town.

Is service different in the far cities?

Mostly the timing. Lawrenceville, our furthest city, is about 41 road miles from the yard, Duluth about 34 and Johns Creek about 32. Price depends partly on the delivery location, and we say any difference up front.

Do some cities restrict who can deliver a roll-off?

Yes. Norcross's exclusive franchise covers roll-offs and construction debris (Secs. 36-202, 36-204(b)); East Point requires owners to use the City for construction and demolition debris and has one exclusive commercial provider (Secs. 7-2005(a), 7-2011); Brookhaven, Tucker and Dunwoody are served by DeKalb County, which says private haulers are not permitted for commercial service; Decatur services all areas and needs city approval and a decal (Secs. 82-38(b), 82-39); Roswell collects household and commercial garbage itself (Secs. 24.2.2, 24.3.1); and Kennesaw's website says private haulers are not permitted. In those cities we check the City's rules before booking a container inside city limits. Each city page says what that code says.

Part 6

What we take

What can I put in a dumpster?

Most standard household junk, construction debris and yard waste: wood, drywall, flooring, furniture, household junk, yard waste and branches, roofing shingles, small appliances without refrigerant and remodeling debris — plus concrete, brick, dirt and asphalt within the weight limit, usually in a 10 or 15.

What can't go in a dumpster?

Georgia bans lead-acid batteries, liquid waste in landfills, regulated quantities of hazardous waste, radioactive waste and PCB waste from its disposal facilities (Rule 391-3-4-.04(6)(b)), and anyone who throws out a banned item, as well as the facility that takes it, is in violation (Rule .04(6)(c)). Whole tires have been banned from Georgia landfills since 1994. Liquids fail the test if they hold free liquid (Rule .01(43)), so dried-out paint is fine but liquid paint is not. We also keep out paints and solvents, hazardous chemicals, oils and fuels, propane tanks and gas cylinders, medical waste, asbestos and appliances that still hold refrigerant. The what can and cannot go in guide says where each of those goes instead.

Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?

No. Georgia allows asbestos-containing waste only at a permitted landfill or another facility the Division authorizes for it, sealed in leak-proof containers and labeled (Rule 391-3-4-.04(8)(b)). Before a regulated demolition — even with no asbestos present — EPD wants a notification ten working days ahead, filed through GEOS. Homes where four or fewer dwelling units are involved are exempt unless they are part of a larger project. It never goes in a roll-off.

Can I put concrete, brick or dirt in a regular dumpster?

Yes, but heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt and gravel should typically only go in a 10 or 15 yard container because of transportation weight limits. A clean load of earth, concrete, cured asphalt, rock and bricks is also inert material under Georgia's rules, which an inert landfill can take (Rule 391-3-4-.01(37)) — another reason to keep it separate.

Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?

Mattresses, yes — we found no Georgia rule naming them. Small appliances without refrigerant, usually yes. Fridges, freezers and A/C units, no: federal EPA rules require the refrigerant to be recovered before final processing (40 CFR 82.155). Our junk removal crew can take them once the refrigerant is properly handled.

What happens to the debris after pickup?

It goes to a permitted facility authorized for that kind of waste, as Georgia's rules require (Rule 391-3-4-.06(3)(a)7) — a construction and demolition landfill, an inert landfill or a municipal solid waste landfill depending on the load. Metal, concrete, yard waste and wood debris may be recycled, depending on local processing availability.
