Construction Dumpster Rental across metro Atlanta

A job site does not make one kind of waste. Demolition comes out heavy — concrete, tile, brick, shingles — then framing and drywall come out light and bulky, then the finish phase is packaging and offcuts. We size each phase on its own: a 10 or 15 for the heavy stuff, a 30 or 40 for the bulk, and a swap schedule so the crew never waits on a full box. Most Atlanta contractors find a 20 works for remodeling and roofing, a 30 for large renovations and demolition, and a 40 for major construction and commercial jobs.

In Georgia the sorting matters. Construction and demolition waste means building materials and rubble from construction, remodeling, repair and demolition — wood, bricks, metal, concrete, wall board, paper, cardboard and other non-putrescible waste (Rule 391-3-4-.01(19)). Clean loads of earth, concrete, cured asphalt, rock and bricks can go to an inert landfill (Rule .01(37)), but asphalt roofing shingles may go only to a C&D or municipal solid waste landfill (Rule .04(4)(d)). A clean, separated load and a box sized for the weight both keep the job on budget. The Atlanta permit guide covers the street paperwork.

At a glance

What you get with construction dumpster rental

  • 10 and 15 yard containers for concrete, brick, dirt and asphalt
  • 30 and 40 yard containers for bulky framing and demolition debris
  • Concrete, asphalt, metal, cardboard and wood recycled whenever possible
  • Delivery timing and placement coordinated with your site manager

Demolition, framing, roofing and finish

Demolition debris is where the weight is. Concrete, brick, asphalt and tile go in the smaller containers because of transportation weight limits. Framing and drywall go in 20s and 30s. Shingle roofs go in a 10 or a 20 depending on the size of the roof — shingles, underlayment, flashing and tear-off debris.

Asbestos is a state matter. Georgia EPD says the federal asbestos rule requires a notification for every regulated demolition project, whether or not asbestos is present, ten working days ahead, filed on EPD forms through GEOS, and all regulated asbestos-containing material must be abated before demolition. Homes where four or fewer dwelling units are involved are exempt from the demolition notice unless they are part of a larger project. Asbestos-containing waste may go only to a permitted landfill or facility the Division authorizes for it, sealed in leak-proof, labeled containers (Rule 391-3-4-.04(8)(b)) — so it never goes in a roll-off. We will ask what the building is before we quote a demo job.

Job-site placement and the City of Atlanta

On a private lot we place where the driver can reach it and the crew can load it. If the container has to sit in a City of Atlanta street or right-of-way, City Code Sec. 138-61 needs a Department of Transportation dumpster permit first: $20 plus $10 a day for up to 100 linear feet, rising to $15, $20 and $25 a day for longer frontage, for no more than six months, and only where the container cannot be accommodated on private property. The applicant carries insurance naming the City as additional insured and repairs any damage to the public way; the container needs the provider's name and phone number and reflective sheeting on all four corners, and a tarp or cover in transit (Sec. 138-61(d), (f), (h)(3)). We found no Georgia DOT permit for a roll-off on a state route right-of-way. Debris from a contractor's work is the contractor's to remove: under City Code Sec. 130-3(d) contractors must remove all solid waste their service generates, and Public Works is not allowed to collect contractor material (Sec. 130-40(c)(4)).

Construction dumpster rental — the local specifics

Most cities around Atlanta put construction debris on the owner or the contractor in writing. Marietta says construction and demolition waste shall be removed by the owner, lessee, tenant or contractor (Sec. 5-8-060(A)), Kennesaw the same (Sec. 74-31(a)), Smyrna that construction or remodeling waste is disposed of at the owner's expense (Sec. 86-2(d)), and Decatur and College Park that city crews do not handle building contractors' waste (Decatur Sec. 82-34(g); College Park Sec. 10-114). College Park lets roll-offs used for construction, demolition or temporary projects stay on site without a permanent enclosure for up to 30 days unless the building official extends it (Sec. 8-202(c)). Duluth and Lawrenceville let C&D haulers work in the city after registering with the City Clerk and certifying C&D-only hauling to a state-approved landfill (Secs. 13-26, 30-40). East Point requires owners to engage the City for debris from repairs, remodeling, construction or demolition (Sec. 7-2005(a)), and Norcross asks for proof that sanitation is arranged with the city before it issues a commercial building permit (Sec. 36-209(b)) — in those two, and in the other cities that keep collection to themselves, we check the City's rules before booking. Every city page quotes the section.

Answers

Construction Dumpster Rental — your questions answered

Do you do swap-outs?

Yes. When the container is full we pick it up or bring a replacement, and multi-week jobs usually set up scheduled swaps at the start. Contractors with several sites can line up rotations across them.

Can I mix concrete with other debris?

You can, but it costs you. Concrete fills the weight allowance long before the box looks full, so heavy debris may need separate handling or special pricing. We usually run a 10 or 15 for rubble alongside a bigger box for the rest — and a clean load of concrete, brick and rock has more places to go than a mixed one.

Can you deliver to a site with no address yet?

Yes — give us the nearest cross streets and a site contact, and we coordinate timing and placement directly with your site manager or contractor before the truck goes out.

Do I need a permit for a container on an Atlanta job site?

Not for the container on your own lot, as far as the City's published code says. You need a Department of Transportation dumpster permit if the box will sit in a City of Atlanta street or right-of-way (Sec. 138-61), and Georgia EPD wants a demolition notification ten working days ahead for regulated demolitions. We flag it when you book.

Which cities restrict construction haulers?

East Point requires owners to use the City for construction and demolition debris, Norcross's franchise covers commercial roll-offs, Decatur requires city approval and a decal, and the DeKalb-served cities — Brookhaven, Tucker and Dunwoody — say private haulers are not permitted for commercial service. Duluth and Lawrenceville register C&D haulers, and several others run a permit or contract. Each city page says what that code says, and we tell you straight when you call.
