Dumpster Rental Cost in Atlanta, GA: What It Covers

The honest answer is that we quote every job by phone, for your address and your material. The useful answer is what goes into that number and what moves it. Here is the arithmetic behind the quote.

Dumpster Rental Cost in Atlanta, GA: What It Covers

The typical range, and why we quote by phone

Dumpster rental pricing in Atlanta generally ranges from approximately $350 to $750. Where a job lands depends on the dumpster size, the type of debris, the rental duration, the disposal weight and the delivery location within metro Atlanta. We offer flat-rate pricing whenever possible, which may include delivery, pickup, disposal costs and the standard rental period — with no hidden fees and no hidden fuel surcharges.

We quote by phone rather than post a price list because the things that decide the number — what is going in, how heavy it is and how far the truck runs — change from job to job. A 15 yard of carpet in Smyrna and a 10 yard of broken patio in Lawrenceville are different jobs at the scale and on the road. Call (470) 407-6185 with the address and the material for an exact quote. We accept most major credit and debit cards, and payment is generally collected when your booking is confirmed, to reserve the delivery.

Where the number comes from: disposal

The biggest cost inside any flat rate is disposal. Under Georgia EPD Rule 391-3-4-.06(3)(a)7, all collected solid waste "must be deposited only in a permitted solid waste handling facility authorized to receive the applicable waste types." That is why the material matters: a construction and demolition landfill may also take inert waste and yard trimmings (Rule .01(20)); an inert landfill takes only earth, concrete, cured asphalt, rock, bricks, yard trimmings and land-clearing debris (Rule .06(3)(c)1); asphalt shingles can go only to construction and demolition or municipal solid waste landfills (Rule .04(4)(d)); and EPD says yard trimmings are banned at lined municipal solid waste landfills.

What we will not do is quote you a landfill price. EPD lists the operating construction and demolition landfills and transfer stations in Fulton County, but it does not publish their rates, hours or whether they take public loads, and we found no official, published tipping fee we could quote. We found no current City of Atlanta landfill or transfer station either — the only per-ton figure in the Atlanta code is a $1.10-a-ton fee paid by private landfill and transfer station operators located in the city (§130-84(d)), which is not a gate rate. So the honest version is this: the material and the facility decide the disposal cost, and we build it into your flat rate.

The things that move it

Weight. Each dumpster includes a standard weight allowance based on its size and the debris type — approximately 1–2 tons on a 10 yard, 2–3 on a 15, 3–4 on a 20, 4–5 on a 30 and 5–6 on a 40. If it goes over, overage charges may apply based on the disposal facility's weight measurements. Concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt, tile and shingles use it up fast, so we explain pricing and weight guidelines upfront.

Days. Most dumpster rentals include a standard 7-day rental period. Need longer? Call before your scheduled pickup and we can often extend, based on availability, for an additional daily or weekly rate. Finished early? Call and we arrange an earlier pickup.

Distance. Delivery location is part of every quote. From our yard on Wendell Drive in the Fulton Industrial District, approx. road miles are: downtown Atlanta 10, Smyrna and East Point 11, College Park 13, Sandy Springs and Decatur 17, Brookhaven 19, Marietta 20, Dunwoody 21, Roswell and Tucker 25, Kennesaw 26, Norcross 28, Alpharetta 31, Johns Creek 32, Duluth 34 and Lawrenceville 41. Approximate figures, but they explain why the far runs can cost a little more.

What the do-it-yourself options cost

For a small job, the City or a drop-off may do. For anything bigger, the limits add up:

OptionPublished charge or limitNotes
Atlanta bulk pickup, building materialUp to 4 cubic yards from your own home maintenance — no shingles, brick, plaster or concreteNever contractor debris (§130-40(c)(2), (4)); bulk collections must be scheduled
Atlanta bulk pickup, junk or tree wasteUp to 8 cubic yards at the curb; 12 call-in pickups a year$336.38 per address for a one-truck load for each call over 12 a year (§130-40(c)(1), (d); §130-84(e)(3))
Atlanta curbside, construction debrisOnly a small owner project that fits in a 96-gallon cart without sticking out of the top§130-45(b)
CHaRM, 1110 Hill St SE, AtlantaHard-to-recycle items, including household hazardous waste and tires; EPD notes some fees may applyBy appointment only: 404-600-6386

DeKalb County Special Collection$518.70 per load for bulky itemsA county service, not a roll-off rental

Every DIY trip is a covered load — in Atlanta, §130-8(a) requires open trucks hauling waste to have a cover or other securing device — plus a drive to the gate and an appointment or a schedule. Past a handful of trips, one roll-off usually wins on money and on weekends.

Permit fees — published and not

None of these change our flat rate, but they can add to the cost of a job. A dumpster in an Atlanta street, sidewalk or right-of-way needs an ATLDOT dumpster permit: a $20.00 fixed fee plus $10.00 a calendar day for up to 100 linear feet, $15.00 for 101 to 200 feet, $20.00 for 201 to 300 feet and $25.00 over 300 feet, plus any blocked meters or no-parking signs (§138-61(e)). Brookhaven issues a Dumpster Permit for up to 30 days on a city street, and Marietta requires a Public Works permit for a bulk container in the right-of-way (§5-8-040(A)(2)); we did not find either fee published. On a state route there is no GDOT permit path for a dumpster that we could find. We found no City of Atlanta permit or fee for a roll-off on a private driveway.

Getting it wrong costs more. An Atlanta street dumpster without a permit risks "A fine not exceeding $1,000.00 a day", each day a separate offense (§138-61(i)(4), (j)). Tearing down a building takes an EPD demolition notice 10 working days ahead even when no asbestos is present, and projects with 10 or more linear or square feet of asbestos-containing material require a project notification and fees. And Georgia's landfill bans on lead-acid batteries, liquids and hazardous waste, and its ban on landfilling whole tires, are the reasons behind our no list.

Where the money hides

The most expensive container is the heavy one that should have been two. Concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt and gravel should typically only go in a 10 or 15 yard and may need separate handling or special pricing — loading them into a big box with everything else is how a job goes over its weight allowance. Mixed loads matter too: a clean load of concrete and brick can go to an inert landfill, but shingles and household junk cannot (Rules .06(3)(c)1, .04(4)(d)). Prohibited items — paints and solvents, hazardous chemicals, oils and fuels, batteries, tires, propane tanks, gas cylinders, medical waste and asbestos — do not belong in the box; the what-goes-in guide says what to do with each instead. Never fill above the rim: overfilled dumpsters cannot legally or safely be transported.

Dumpster or junk removal — and getting a quote

For anything beyond a couple of pickup loads, a container you load yourself is usually the better value, because you are paying for the box rather than the labor. For a single sofa or a cleanout with nobody to lift, our junk removal service, where our crew does the loading, hauling and disposal, may suit you better; it is priced on debris volume and the labor involved. Call (470) 407-6185 — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Same-day or next-day delivery is available in many Atlanta-area service locations based on availability; call before noon for the best chance of same-day.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to rent a dumpster in Atlanta?

Generally approximately $350 to $750, depending on the size, the type of debris, the rental length, the disposal weight and the delivery location. Our flat rate may include delivery, pickup, disposal and the standard rental period, with no hidden fees.

What is included in a flat rate?

Delivery and pickup, disposal up to the included weight allowance, and the standard rental period — most rentals include 7 days. Going over the weight allowance or keeping the box longer are what can add to it.

Is it cheaper to use Atlanta bulk pickup instead?

For a small amount of household junk, maybe. Bulk pickup takes up to 8 cubic yards of junk or tree waste, but only 4 cubic yards of your own building material, never shingles, brick, plaster, concrete or contractor debris. After 12 call-ins a year the City charges $336.38 per truck load.

Does it cost more outside Atlanta?

Delivery location is part of the quote, so the far runs can cost a little more: Duluth is approx. 34 road miles from our yard and Lawrenceville approx. 41. Any street permit cost is separate.
